Don't Feed Your Cat Too Much Liver

Summary: Animals' diets are just as important to their health as our diets are to ours. You need to be careful what you feed your cats, and liver is in that category of things to ration.

I've always found the thought of liver somewhat revolting, but for whatever reason, cats find it tasty! The liking for liver probably varies from cat to cat, but chances are, if you put some liver in front of your cat, it will gladly consume. You do need to be aware, however, that your cat can have too much liver, and too much liver is not a good thing. Here are some things to watch out for.

First of all, liver doesn't contain all the nutrients necessary for a healthy cat. Granted, there are a lot of nutrients within liver, but everything cats need can't be found solely within liver. If you're looking for one food that contains everything they need, look for a multi-nutrient cat food. Most pet foods do contain the necessary vitamins and minerals, so that definitely shouldn't be difficult to find.

Also, too much liver could also result in your cat suffering from too much vitamin A. If your cat has too much vitamin A in its system, it could cause other serious health problems, including bones. Just like with anything else, you need to moderate what your cat eats and the nutrients it receives. Too much of anything isn't a good thing! Vitamin A, while needed for optimum health, is toxic in high amounts. You should also note that, if you feed your cat vitamin A supplements, you definitely shouldn't feed it liver!

Liver isn't bad for your cat, but you do need to moderate and keep tabs on how much your cat is eating. If you can properly feed your cat, ensuring that it receives the right amounts of the right things, then you will be able to enjoy your cat for a very long time!
