Don't Give Your Cat Raw Fish

Summary: Cats may not be too picky in what they eat, and may be seen through the media to be avid raw fish eaters, but as a pet owner, you should know to not feed your cat raw fish. You need to be aware of the risks involved, and should take precautions to protect the health of your cat.

For some, the lure of sushi is powerful. The promise of raw fish presented as a delicacy is some people's favorite, and when prepared correctly, can actually be very good for you. Raw fish, however, is not so good for your cat's health, and could actually be very detrimental for your pet. You should avoid feeding your cat raw fish, so your cat can enjoy a long, full, and healthy life!

You should never feed your kitty raw fish, no matter how much she begs for it. Raw fish can harbor tapeworms, which will rob your cat of nutrients as the worms feed themselves. Plus, tapeworms are just disgusting in just about every single way. Why would you ever risk giving your cat a tapeworm? Ew! Also, you should be aware that raw fish contains an enzyme that destroys thiamin, a vitamin cats need for good health. With a lack of this vitamin, your cat could suffer mild to severe brain damage.

Be sure not to confuse raw fish with all fish. Fish, when cooked and prepared properly, is actually really good for your cat, and is an excellent snack that will boost its health. Don't hesitate to feed your cat properly prepared fish, because it could really benefit your cat—you just need to watch out for the raw fish, which is harmful to your cat's health.

Now that you know what to look out for when feeding your cat, you should be able to enjoy your cat's long and healthy life!
