Don't Give Your Cat Raw Meat

The idea of raw meat is somewhat revolting to me, as a human being. Not many relish the thought of chowing down on raw meat, so usually that's not an issue with us. With animals, however, it's a little different. We often see animals as having no qualms about eating raw meat, and most of the time we're right in our assumptions. Carnivorous animals don't usually seem to have the same reservations about eating raw meat, but when it comes to your pets, you need to make sure that that lack of reservation doesn't extend too far.

Raw meat can definitely contain bacteria and pesticide remnants, which while we definitely know are bad for us, are also (unsurprisingly) bad for your cat. Cats can be affected by bacteria and pesticides in much the same way we are. Yes, cats are animals, they are felines, but that doesn't mean that they are wild animals. Because house cats are domesticated, their bodies react differently to raw meat as opposed to how the bodies of their wild relatives respond to such food. The bacteria and pesticides may not only make it sick with an infection, but can also weaken the immune system, allowing your pet to contract another kind of illness.

If you're concerned about your pet not receiving the necessary nutrients, and you think raw meat is the answer, think again. Your cat will receive more necessary nutrients and have almost no serious risk by eating a cat food approved by your vet. Play things safe and don't risk anything with what you feed your pet. You want your cat to live as long as possible, and so you should feed your cat the right food, and avoid food that can harm it. Here's to a long and healthy life for your cat!
